On Power

One of the arguments that I hate the most is:

“That’s just the way the world is.”

It’s lazy.

The world is this way because you allow it to be this way.

You have the ability to edit the world around you. You have the ability to edit your mind and body. Nothing is locked in.

If there’s something that you want to change, change it.

You are full of the power to do so, and if you make changes to reality with the aim of helping people, you have the permission of every person on the planet. I am giving you permission. Do what you’ve been meaning to do.

Much of our daily lives are directed in a way that serves the status quo, which I define as “the way things are now”. A lot of the things that are now do not work. You definitely have better ideas. You should be making those ideas real.

Making an idea real is terrifying.

Things that are real can’t be perfect, but done is better than perfect. Waiting for perfect means nothing gets done, so you’ll stay exactly where you are now. Nothing is stopping you from doing exactly what you want to do except yourself. External pressure? Sure, it’s there, but at the end of the day, you’re the person who chooses how your life unfolds. You deserve to live the life you want to live.

Every instant, we’re making decisions.

Power is not top-down. Power is between people. Power is internal. You have power over every action you take. Nobody else can enforce limits on you. Ultimately, you enforce limits on yourself. Enforcing limits on yourself is a bad habit, unless those limits help you become a better person and help those around you.

Part of why it’s so hard to stop enforcing limits on yourself is because you’ve been fed those limits as things that are good.

A lot of what you’ve been taught about what is good is incorrect and designed to control you. You cannot be controlled unless you decide to let yourself be controlled. Nobody else chooses how you act.

You are the architect of your own existence.
